Collesi aims for one million bottles: the Apecchio (Pesaro-Urbino) company launches Birra 1870 and opens the challenge of large-scale distribution
Four top-fermented craft beers for a project combining territory, controlled supply chain and industrial growth
A new beer line and a declared objective: to reach one million bottles within two years. With the launch of Birra 1870 - Metodo Artigianale Italiano, Collesi launches a development phase that looks in a structured way towards large-scale organised distribution, keeping production quality, territorial identity and control of the supply chain at the centre.
The new line was born in Apecchio (Pesaro-Urbino), in the heart of the Marche region, and is based on one of the distinctive elements of the company: the purest water of Monte Nerone, coming from uncontaminated natural springs. Rich in essential minerals, the water contributes to the balance, harmony and smoothness of the beers, becoming an integral part of the aromatic profile and structure of the final product.
The basis of production is an in-house agricultural chain. In the 200 hectares of the Collesi Estates, barley grows on the hills of the Marche region following natural methods, without the use of pesticides. The sustainable agricultural practices and innovative techniques adopted make it possible to reduce water consumption and CO₂ emissions, guaranteeing a short, traceable supply chain from field to glass. Even the hops, a key ingredient for aroma and balance, come from consortia companies that share the Collesi philosophy, with careful selection of varieties and precise control of all phases, from cultivation to harvest.
Beer 1870 is divided into four references – Blonde, IPA, Triple Malt e Amber - united by a consistent production approach. They are all top-fermented beers, unpasteurised and with natural re-fermentation in the bottle, a process that allows the aromas and flavours of the raw materials to be preserved. Production is led by Belgian master brewer Marc Knops, who set up the project with the aim of combining the elegance of the Trappist beers with the Italian brewing identity.
The Tenute Collesi Beer Factory is the brainchild of Giuseppe Collesi. Work began in 2005, the first crush was made in November 2007 and marketing got underway in March 2008. A path built over time that today opens up to a wider dimension.
«With the Birra 1870 line we decided to take an important step,» explains Giuseppe Collesi, 'taking our idea of craft beer out of a restricted niche, without distorting it. We want to enter large-scale distribution with a recognisable product, consistent with our history and the territory from which it originates. The objective is clear: to reach one million bottles within two years, building a solid and continuous presence on the market, but continuing to produce with artisan methods, controlled supply chain, and great attention to the quality of raw materials'.
The new Birra 1870 line will be previewed from 15 to 17 February at the Fiera di Rimini during the 2026 edition of Beer&Food Attraction.
